The company began to expand into new frontiers of the model industry. In 1971 LEGO did start to target young women with the adding of furnishings and dollhouses; in 1974 it introduced their first real human figures, called Minifigures; and in 1979 that expanded in space with sets displaying astronaut minifigures, rockets, lunar rovers and spaceships. The Successione series first showed that same year, a line of charms elements directed at young girls. This era also saw the creation of a management structure, with Godtfred Kirk Christiansen’s young man Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen signing up the bureaucratic staff and working to modernize the company’s manufacturing methods.
